Thank you, Cedar Fair for destroying more Dorney Park history. The new building looks nice but the Mansion was even nicer. I liked the western style facade on the side. I found some nice pics of the Mansion somewhere, forgot the site. Now I heard those bastards at DP want to destroy the old barn etc. at the far end of the park past the Zephyr tracks to make room for more parking. I heard it straight from Bob Ott. He had a speech the other week at a historic mill in Whitehall. I think Cedar Fair's agenda was to turn DP into a Cedar Point clone and eliminate anything from the park's pre-CF days. Well, they still have the Zephyr, Whip, and Thunderhawk. As well as the pond with the rock mountain in the middle near Thunder Creek Mountain. And the Krazy Kars (Disco Dodge) building straight from the 70's. It still has the colored panels on the sides like it did in the 70's. There's pictures of it in my 70's brochures. Oh, and there's also a nice picture of the Gold Mine entrance in one of the brochures. I guess you could also count the Administration Office down by the old entrance and the old entrace itself as other pre-CF survivors. And the Scrambler, Monster, Tilt-A-Whirl were at the park back in the 60's, and the Wild Mouse as well, perhaps the Monster and Tilt are newer versions but they're the same ride and the Scrambler is the original Eli Bridge ride. The kiddie rides by Hampton in Tot Spot I believe are the same ones from the 70's. The Musik Express, Enterprise, and Apollo 2000 were the final rides added while Bob Ott was still in charge (chairman of the board) in 1984. Is the original 1901 carousel gone? They had it in storage, then brought it out for the 100th anniversary in 1984 to replace the PTC Grande Carrousel destroyed in the Sept. 1983 fire.

Oh, one more thing, Crazy, I just got this neat set of 1967-8 ads on Ebay that were scanned from a brochure. One of the pages features Robert F. Ott when he became president and general manager of Dorney Park around 1967 or 68. His picture is there, he must have been in his forties then. It describes about how he will lead the park. Under his picture it says Robert F. Ott President & General Manager Dorney Park Coaster Co. Inc. In the pre-CF days the ownership of Dorney Park was known as Dorney Park Coaster Co.

The carousel from 1901 was sold when harris weinstein owned the park. They wanted to raise money for improvements. I believe thats what happend to it. I have every dorney park brochure possible. I have not seen anything on ebay that i didnt have in the last 2 years. I think its time for me to put my whole doney park collection up for sale.

I would be interested in seeing the picture of the Mine Ride entrance that you said was in one of your brochures Robert. If you can find a couple minutes in your busy scedule, can you please post it. Or maybe if you have a copy Crazy.

I need a free download for the scanning software. Anyone? So you have a scanner but no software to use it? Try searching the website for the scanner manufacturer.
