The Monster and Scrambler are still in Dorney Park! Everything else shown is gone with the exception of the Zephyr and the kiddie ride. You can see the Water Skooters next to the Zephyr and also in the pic with the Sky Ride. And that Dorney Park sign with Alfundo's head on top, that field behind it was the then future site of Wildwater Kingdom! There was nothing there before 1985! That pic was taken in 1973, a year before my birth. I have those pics, someone was selling them on ebay. I have that brochure, too from the late 70's. I have a couple different versions. Another thing, a small park past Harrisburg that is like the old Dorney Park in the 70's called Williams Grove is in danger of closing and possibly being demolished! It was owned by the same owner since 1972 and now the owner wants to retire. If they don't find a new management team, the park won't open this year. I was there once and they have an old pretzel dark ride similar to what Dorney's was. And a wooden coaster, and funhouse, a kiddie coaster the same model DP had before Little Lazer until the mid-80's it was made by Schiff. I don't like all these parks closing, there are others that are closing or in threat of closing such as Libertyland in Memphis which is home to Elvis' favorite coaster, might close, and Myrtle Beach Pavilion is closing after 50+ years after September. And I heard Clementon Park in NJ is in danger, too.

Nice pics Crazy. Thanks for posting them. They bring back some memories of the good old days. I had forgotten what that mine ride looked like.

ANYBODY!!!!!! I'm new to this site and I just saw the pictures posted by crazyaboutwildwood. I am thoroughly disgusted by what I saw!!!! Are you going to tell me the old stone fountain and the stone house are no longer there?!?!? I used to be drawn to that area because of the history; and the same with the small bridge with the ducks in the pond. I know if I go there now, I would not recognize the place and it would probably make me sick. All these parks are nothing but competition. No one stops to think that maybe SOME people like things the way they were. I'm really surprised they didn't build a Wallmart there; maybe that's their future plans.

Love your pictures!! I have pictures of my kids with the clown when he sat on a bench. Is he still there anymore---doubt it. I'm glad I have what pictures I do of the old zoo and pond where the seal used to be. I don't even know the place anymore.

Dorney Park has changed alot since the 70's. Especially since Cedar Fair took over in 1992, they tore down the Journey to the Center of the Earth following 1992 and a bunch of other classic rides. The whole park was renovated from top to bottom with new paths, signs, etc. Plus all the newer high-tech coasters. Yes, the clown is long gone since the 80's. The clown was Alfundo and his head used to be on top of the old coaster building at the old entrance. The zoo closed at the end of 1983, after the big fire that wiped out the carousel and Bucket O' Blood. The Laser is located where the seal pond used to be. Now they are tearing down more historical buildings at the far end of the park, a 100 year old barn. Now almost every old building is gone from the park except for the Whip. The stone pond is still there. That gold mine building shown was just torn down last fall for the new Subway. The mine closed around 1985 and sat closed off until it was demolished. DP is also sort of a ghetto park now with groups of minorities on buses. I met the former owner of the park from 1967-1984, Bob Ott recently.

You got that right, robert. Bus-load after bus-load of people would come in; when I went and to be honest, it used to really get on my nerves, with all the people. I remember the pld Dorney where you could cook-out under the pavillions and spend the whole day in a pleasant atmosphere. Now it's just too much going on for me; maybe if I was 15 again it would be different. I remember coming in the back way along a winding road, past farm houses; guess all that's history. Glad to hear, at least, the stone pond is still there.

Oh, does anyone remember when the traffic went through the park and they had a security guard or policeman directing the traffic with a sign he turned? Guess I'm REALLY telling my age now!

Hello, hello?!?? Guess everyone went away for the holidays. No one seems on here anymore. Where I live, it's summer practically all year round, so I can understand everyone going on their vacations in the east.
