Hi Robert. I had to step out for awhile for a mothers day event. Did you see the haunted house under construction out back?

Yes, but it didn't look like much was done, I only saw a fence with lamps on top and a guillotine inside. Is yours going to be as big as Scream Works at DP? I hope it is as good as Castle Dracula or better. There doesn't look like much room there for a large haunted attraction let alone two in one. Can you give me a little more info? Is it going to go back farther than that little spot where the fence is?

Dont forget about my 3 car garage. Im sure you seen that? There is also another section besides the area behind the fence. You probably could not see that? Its not super big but for what we do, people are like how did you get all of that in there? Its alot of fun! You will have to come and see for yourself. Its not like anyone elses haunt. We just do what we feel like doing and we usually have a big turn out.

The 3 car garage is located to the very left of this picture. You can only see just the tail end of it on the left.

Mike, did you hear that the park wants to tear down more historical buildings? The houses along DP Rd. and the 100 year old mill to make way for more parking! Bob Ott is really upset about this! He talked about it at a speech he had a couple weeks ago at an old mill in Whitehall. It's on the DP Online site. There were two old bumper cars found. They also want to widen DP Rd. from Lincoln Av. to the entrance and move the parking booths down to DP Rd. and relocate the Zephyr train tracks over to make room for the widened road. The tracks might actually be relocated closer to their original alignment since they were moved over in 2000 to make room for the wider midway and fill in the ditch/creek. Remember when there was the narrow path from the Zephyr station along the tracks over toward Tot Spot? And there were two crossings before and after the station with the crossbuck X flashers and ding ding bell? Now it's the safety gates because the park is afraid of someone being hit by the train and getting sued. They took out the gated crossing by the other end where the Scream Works is now when they took out Chester Cheetah's.

Its all crazy robert. In 5 years you wont know what dorney even looked like as of today. They are going ape shiit up there. The current parking lot is going to get eaten up with park expansions between the water park and the amuement side. They are pushing for the parking garages as the moreys in wildwood are considering them for the near future!!! I still love dorney park but I dont visit as often as I used to. I went this year already and I might go one more time but thats it. And it wont be an all day trip. If we do go it will be a 3 or 4 hour trip when its not so hot. I dont go to the halloweekends anymore cause we do our own haunt, which is alot of fun for us. Dorney is changing and its changing fast! If you are a big fan, which I know you are, Get up there and take lots of pictures of what ever is left. You know they just bought all of the paramont parks. They are getting pretty aggressive. Im actually suprised they bought all of those parks!

I think they're trying to turn Dorney Park into a Six Flags type park. You know, where you have five tall steel coasters, high rip-off prices, huge crowds, and aggressive marketing to everywhere. They might be bursting at the seams soon. I was just there today. They really changed the former Gold Mine/Arcade area. The path is blocked going down to Thunder Creek Mtn. and you have to walk around past the Burger Barn to get to TCM. And there are umbrella tables next to the Subway what looks like where the Gold Mine was because it's down so low. The old house and barn are still standing back behind the park where the Zephyr turns around. The Whip is still the same as always, and the Krazy Kars is still the original 70's Disco Dodge building with the colored panels. I hope those rides remain for a long time. I can't imagine what they'll change next. They also changed a few of the food stands and gift shops. It seems they have more things that are popular with kids, such as hair wraps, etc. They are selling T-shirts with the old DP & WWK logo from the 80's! And another one with the Alfundo head on it. They may be honoring and remembering the past that way, as well as with the history signs around the park showing former attractions, but they are destroying some history, too. I wonder how they will expand into the parking lot and what rides they might put there? And how will the Paramount deal work out? Will DP season pass holders be able to get into King's Dominion for free? Paramount bought King's Dominion, King's Island, Carowinds, and other parks around the same time CF bought Dorney. King's Dominion used to be owned by Taft Broadcasting I think, I have a KD brochure from 1984. They used to have a haunted boat ride with a lift and splacshdown at the end in a mountain and they closed it around 95? and then put in the Volcano coaster in the mountain, it's an inverted like Talon. I rode the haunted boat ride before it closed. They also took out the steam train ride several years ago, I was mad at that. They recently added a Scooby Doo Haunted Mansion dark ride, I wish DP would get a ride like that.

They are selling T-shirts with the old DP & WWK logo from the 80's! And another one with the Alfundo head on it. They probably found several boxes of old shirts under the old mansion before they knocked it down. Do the shirts smell old and musty like the mine ride Robert? You should tell the people that sit at those umbrella tables that they are eating on sacred ground.

I'm relatively new to this site and have just started reading some of the comments. All this news about Dorney Park is really new to me but then again, not surprising. Going to Dorney Park now, or Hershey, as a matter of fact, can be very fraustrating; to me, anyway. I know everyone has to keep up with the times and money really talks, but I still used to like the "old-fashioned" way the parks used to be. I think that's why I always liked Knoebels; unless they're starting to change, too, I don't know. I just felt more relaxed the way things "used to be" and now everything is so hectic and money screams at every corner. There is hardly no where you can go anymore; unless you have quite a bit of money in your pocket. I never even liked going to Wild Water Kingdom; it was just too crowded and noisy. I guess for kids it would still be alright, but nothing is laid-back, like it used to be. I remember all those old rides at Dorney Park where you paid as you rode them. The last time I was up there I felt like I was in a different world; it changed so much; and I'm talking about the days when the big clown's head was still out front. I don't know; I guess it was more care-free back then.

crazyaboutwildwood--I just viewed your pics of Dorney Park and I gotta tell you, my mouth fell open. All those rides in your pictures, I can remember going on, how sad! I still have pictures of the old pond near the zoo that was in the back with the fish boats you had to paddle with your feet. When they filled all that in, I was devastated but then I should know better not to get really upset over anything nowadays. It doesn't matter how you feel about things; they do what they want. I have a few pictures of Dorney when my mom went back in the late 40's. Everything is completely different now.
