I made the drive up the Jersey Turnpike from South Jersey to Rye Playland yesterday. It was cool. Traffic on and around the George Washington Bridge on I95 was heavy of course, but other than that it is pretty easy to get to, just stay on I95 and get off at exit 19.
I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't gone, to go to Rye Playland. I rode The Old Mill which was a very long and high quality dark ride. From what I understand the Old Mill is what the Dungeon Dark ride under Castle Dracula was, a concrete trough filled with water that takes you through lots of different scenes. I never got to ride the Dugeon Boat ride but I did the Castle walk through at Castle Dracula. But now, I at least got to experience a Old Mill Boat ride.
I then did the Flying Witch, a good 2 level dark ride that does not go outside at all unlike many dark rides. One of the most impressive things about it is its elaborate exterior that has very detailed paintings and props.
I then did what is according to Laff in the Dark's website the last remaining actual official "Laff in the Dark" dark ride. Zombie Castle. It is a classic one level ride that offers alot of fun surprises like bumpy parts, and a strobe light tunnel. It is housed in a very old, authentic, original building.
I also shot some aerial shots from the Ferris wheel of the park. It was like $20 for 24 tickets, all stored on a "Fun Card" so I rode all the rides I wanted to and some multiple times for $20. Plus it was $7 to park, I think the park was a bargain.
They also have Nathan's Hot Dogs there and a really unique old time Horse racing ride that is kind of like a Carousel but much faster, almost like Steeplechase Park's Steeplechase ride. They also have a classic, wooden coaster and a whip, which is becoming a little more rare.
It was definantly a fun, unique day.
