I'm telling ya, just propose one in some township and apply for an amusement grant and you can build your own attraction from the ground up!

Funtown Pier was not the easiest place to work with.If we wanted to air our dirty laundry in public, I'd do so here. Instead, I'll just say that we were treated very poorly and it reached a point where it just wasn't working anymore. I can believe that! There were some extremely sketchy people on that pier! These two also seemed sketchy. For one Tatooed Steve claimed to have built many of the props and the sound system yet when I asked him about the details of it, he did not know. I'm an entertainment production buff so this stuff is of great interest to me yet it seemed like he knew nothing. Later I asked for a weekend job on the ride and Steve roped me along where I later found out that he didn't want to hire me because he could get goth kids on the board walk to work in the ride for FREE! NICE! Real nice...[/quote]

Sorry it's taken so long to respond. We finished up the Halloween haunting and things have finally slowed down to where I can take some time to answer questions again.
Steve did actually create a few of the props, including some of the items seen in the kitchen and bar and while he did not build any of the animatronics, he and his wife did supply character voices that we currently still use for them. All of the animatronics were built by the owner/creator of the attraction. As far as I can remember, nobody, except myself, ever worked for free. I came in as a volunteer at first and made enough of an impression that the owner insisted I be paid. The goth kids were there then and they definitely hurt the image of the attraction. They didn't last much longer after my arrival though. Steve is still a friend and a great guy all around and we remain in touch.
It may be due to the fact that the actual owner of the Manor chooses not to boast about the fact that he is responsible for the creation of the majority of what you see in the attraction, but we do seem to wind up working with a whole lot of people who decide, on their own, that it's OK to take credit for things they did not actually create or even take part in. Even worse, many of them claim that they are a partner or that they even actually own the attraction. It's a very peculiar phenomenon but I guess it's what happens when you decide to step away from the spotlight. While there have beem many people involved with the attraction over the years, there's only one owner with myself being the only other consistent person involved with the production of the show.

So where do you go from here? Are you going to find another summer shore location so that you can be open May-October instead of just October in some remote location?

Sorry to disappoint Robert but the plan for the forseeable future is to remain at the farm, which is by no means a remote location. It's actually a pretty well known location as we had many visitors from out of state. On top of that, we had a pretty decent turn out. I was pulling through more people in half a Saturday here than I managed to pull through for an entire weekend in Seaside. It's much easier to put on a show for one month when EVERYONE is into it than it is to open for a full season, especially when you do more business in that one month than you can pull through in several. On top of that, we can now focus on making the changes and improvements during the remaining 11 months, that we've been talking about for the last 5 years.

Well then it seems NJ shore will be without a decent walk-through haunted attraction for a long while. Nothing is happening at the former Castle Dracula site, it seems the Nickels have given up for the time being, no new castle/mansion for Brigantine or Long Branch. None of the amusement parks/piers have any plans for a new walk-through haunted attraction. Looks like you'll have to go out of state for a good scare in July. I know of a few places, like Lake George, NY and Niagara Falls which is on this site. www.darkridethrills.com has info on several attractions, including Wildwood, Point Pleasant Fun House, Knoebel's Haunted Mansion, Lake George, NY. The late Dr. Blood's House of Horror of Sportland Pier, Wildwood is shown on the site.

Robert no one really cares about Niagara falls anymore! jeez get off your soapbox about it! we are new jersians, and don't want to get a freaking passport just to go to Canada to a haunted house (which i heard sucks!) come on Robert, you seem intelligent, step off the box about it already. every comment you have is the same, about Niagara falls(slowly i turn) if you like it there then move out of NJ. not our fault we have strict codes here to prevent another catastrophe like great adventure!

I didn't mention Niagara Falls by itself, I listed other places which that site has like Knoebel's, Lake George, NY (which is straight up I-87 north of Albany, NY-if coming from NJ, you would take I-287 toward Mahwah, NJ/Suffern, NY) and that site does mention Wildwood and Point Pleasant, but Wildwood no longer has any horror walk-throughs (except that crappy one on Morey's) and Point Pleasant's Fun House looks fun, but it's not a Haunted Mansion or Castle. Check the site out for yourself and see the articles. They cover the Wildwood dark rides, and Knoebel's, and Lake George, NY's haunted attractions. While we're at it, let's write letters to Nickels and Morey's telling them to rebuild Castle Dracula and the Haunted House.

Oh, and why would Bill put a Niagara Falls haunted attractions article on this site if it's really about the NJ haunted houses? I guess it's because his brother Seph went there, he was curious about the haunted houses and wanted to check them out like me (which I did July, 2006). They were good, compared to other crappy haunts I went through. A bit expensive, although Frankenstein was only $6 and we went through twice! And I liked their Castle Dracula with the up and down stairs, various scenes, monsters hissing at you, although the lobby is small and doesn't compare to WW's Castle Dracula but is decorated nice and spooky. That's one place I would go back to again but it's very expensive to vacation there and the passport requirement scares me. It's a long drive, too but there's always Amtrak from NY Penn Station to Niagara Falls, NY or ON (Canada) I just like to travel around and experience different attractions. And yes, we are allowed to post about dark rides from anywhere on this forum.
