OK, but where can I go this summer for my "walk-through haunted house" fix? I was to Niagara Falls, and Lake George, NY where they have Frankenstein houses and other haunts, there are walk-throughs in VA Beach (I was in them) and Myrtle Beach, and Gatlinburg, TN (Ripley's Haunted plus one other haunt in each town making 4 total) Looks like there are none in NJ except for what Morey's has to offer and the Pt. Pleasant Fun House, and OC MD has a few walkthroughs including the Bill Tracy Pirate's Cove but the walk-through Morbid Manor burned down over 10 years ago. Now there's a ride-through called Morbid Manor on the OC Pier. There are no permanent walk-through haunts in my home state of PA as far as I know.

Don't know what to tell you about summer haunts. Not many left, I know. If possible though, can we keep this thread limited to discussion and questions about our re-opening and not get into a list of every other attraction and when they're open or not? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Philly is about 2 hours away from where we are. Not terribly far but not exactly close either. I'm thinking, by the sound of it, we're going to be a bit too far for your parents to be cool with you visiting. Sorry!

Is Vernon all the way up near the NY state line by Warwick, NY? Will the Manor look the same that it did at Funtown Pier? Is there any possibility of making it bigger? Since you're not open this summer, there are only 3 summer walkthroughs in NJ this year, the lowest number ever. They are Haunted Halloween House, Land of Make Believe, Hope, NJ, Curse of Mummy, Morey's (old Fun Pier), and Fun House, Point Pleasant Beach. From 1977 to 2006 there was a summer haunt at the shore every year, Castle Dracula, Nickels, Wildwood (1977-2001), Zombie Xtreme Seaside (2002) and your Haunted Manor at Seaside Funtown (2003-2006). Now, there's practically nothing at the shore except the few dark rides and Mummy and Fun House Pt Pleasant Beach. I hope you can find a summer location again, perhaps for 2008? Nobody else seems interested in opening a summer haunt at the shore. I feel like boycotting NJ even though I was just through there the other day on a road trip with my family. Other states/countries (Canada, etc.) have much better haunts. Lake George, NY has a couple good haunts.

why does everything come back to Canada and the lousy haunts there Robert? you never fail to mention them in any blog you post, give it up! i don't think anyones going to Canada too soon to do just a dark ride. we may be desperate to go through a dark ride, but NOT that desperate!

Because all the other haunts out there SUCK. There are NO year-round, summer haunts anywhere in my home state of PA, and NJ, DE, MD beaches basically have ride-throughs only now, NY area parks (Coney, Rye Playland have ride throughs, there was one crappy walk-through at Nellie Bly park Brooklyn with Dracula popping out of a coffin-took one minute to go through, the park was sold so I have no idea what happened to the haunted house) Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach have walk-throughs, the ride-through Haunted Hotel at former Myrtle Pavilion was torn down in March. There are also haunted houses in Gatlinburg, TN. Ripley's Haunted Adventure is in Gatlinburg and Myrtle. Ripley's should build one in NJ or somewhere.

I wouldn't count on their being any year round attractions like that again (unless they approve my Dark ride/skyscraper project in NJ, otherwise buy yourself some good horror movies and just pretend it's real.

OK, here's the latest scoop on our Halloween opening. You guys are the first to hear about this. I haven't even posted the info on our website yet! There will be more details to follow but here are the basics that are 100% confirmed. Hollowgraves Haunted Manor will be open weekends in October at our new location at Heaven Hill Farm on Route 94 in Vernon, NJ. There will be a hay ride that drops you off in front of the Manor, as well. Tickets are cheap at $10 (for both the Manor and the Hayride combined) and will be sold from 7pm to 11pm. We promise to stay open until every last victim comes through. As soon as I have more details, I'll post them here as well as on our website. Just wanted to finally let you guys know exactly what was going on for 2007. Thanks JOHN Thats a heck of a lot more expensive then on Funtown Pier. Not only that but I can't walk to Vernon NJ. IMOP, you guys made a mistake leaving the boardwalk areas of NJ. I have some interesting photos, stories, and some questions to ask about your ride in the future. This is when I have time to upload my photos. I'm particularly curious to learn what "Tatooed Steve" and his Bob's Space Racer Water Gun friend had to do with the ride. I was at Seaside Park this weekend (actually today) and it was a shame to no longer see the ride there. Its also a shame that when it was there, it was so small. I'm used to seeing massive haunted rides on piers and that one was just so small but I digress, its sad to see any decent haunted house leave regardless of size.

Actually, it's NOT more expensive than it was it Funtown Pier, if you take into consideration that you're also getting a haunted hayride thrown in. I've heard that the price may change but either way, you're certainly getting more for your money.
You're entitled to an opinion but it wasn't like we wanted to leave the shore. It's certainly not a mistake financially either as we certainly didn't do as well in Seaside as expected whereas the Haunted Manor consistently makes a profit as a Halloween haunt. While money is not the reason we do what we do, it's what makes us able to continue presenting it year after year. That's not to say we will never return to the shore, but for now it will be making the Halloween rounds.
Ask away. I'll answer what I can. For now, I can answer that Tatooed Steve is a former employee of the Haunted Manor. He was the manager for 2002 in Keansburg and 2003 in Seaside. He left after the 2003 season to move on to other projects. I'm not aware of any Space Racer Water Gun, unless you're talking about the Water Gun game that was in front of us for the 2003 season. If so, it had no connection to us other than the fact that the guy who ran it was briefly an employee of ours.
The house is by no means small. It's as large a a Cape Cod style house. Is it as large as the Haunted Mansion in Long Branch was? Not by any means! How many are? It certainly isn't small though.

Maybe looks are deceiving. It looks small on the web site but you're just seeing the front of it. It's too bad that you had to leave Seaside, because now for the first time since Brigantine Castle was built NJ shore has no summer haunt unless you count Morey's Mummy attraction. Well, there's no summer walk-through haunts in my home state of PA, either so I must travel out of state to find them. DAFE has some of the best ones rated on the site. Indiana Beach, Lake George, NY and Niagara Falls, ON Canada were mentioned on DAFE such as the Frankenstein attractions. I wonder why someone like Ripley's won't build a haunt in NJ? They have two in Myrtle Beach, and Gatlinburg, TN. Is NJ more strict regarding haunts vs. other states/countries? NJ lost all their walk-throughs and some of their dark rides. But, other shore towns outside NJ are losing entire parks, including the dark rides that were in them. Example: Florida's Miracle Strip with the Bill Tracy Haunted Castle after 2004, and Myrtle Beach Pavilion with the Haunted Hotel after 2006 and soon Astroland Coney with Dante's Inferno this fall. I think it has something to do with the post 9-11 real estate boom as to why so many seaside parks are closing. It's too tempting to sell when a developer throws 5 million at you for your land. John, did you hear about Funtown Pier going condo? They wanted to increase the ratables, so that they would get more tax. They were actually going to clear all the rides and build condo buildings right on the pier but I think the plan failed.

Funtown was NEVER going condo. It was an idea that was kicked around and eventually brought up at a town meeting. It would never actually happen and ultimately it was used as a way to bring publicity to the pier. Obviously, it worked because people like yourself are STILL talking about it.

JOHN Hollowgraves is small, in the sense, that I enjoyed it so much that it seemed to be over too quickly.Even The L.B.Haunted Mansion and Terror on Church Street left me feeling the same way , though they were of epic proportions.I guess my idea of sadisfaction, is to spend eternity in a really good haunt I just can't get enough. On the other hand Stillwalk Manor nearly put me and my wife to sleep.I could'nt wait for that one to be over. It's smaller than Hollowgraves too.The only thing I liked was the giant devil's head at the end.Everything else was the mass-produced stuff you see everywere these days.Without Hollowgraves,I wo'nt bother going to Seaside anymore. I was kind of hoping that they were really going to put condos on the Funtime pier.It would be a blast to see them get swallowed up by a good storm.

See what I mean? If the Stillwalk Manor can put someone to sleep then it must be really bad. About Orlando, the Skull Kingdom closed last Nov. and is due to be razed for homes soon. Everyone is cashing in on the real estate opportunity. The former owner of Skull Kingdom said that year-round haunts aren't profitable, that the real estate is more valuable as something else. Seaside is down to 1 haunted ride now. Yes, I would feel it was a rip off to spend $10 for 10 minutes worth of haunted house. For $10 you should get something like Brigantine- half hour to 45 min to go through. The Niagara haunts are actually rip offs-you spend from $8 to $12 USD on each one and they take about 10-15 min each to go through. But, I liked them. The Ripley's Haunted House looks like a good quality haunt, they should build one in Wildwood. Or a new Castle Dracula, ha ha. I want to try Haunted Manor sometime.
