I may be visiting Knoebels this summer and was wondering if anyone here has been through their Haunted Mansion?
This is the only reason I'm going..is it worth the trip?

Yes, it is worth the trip. Knoebel's is a very unique, special, free amusement park. It is old and has a great old fashioned feel to it. The Haunted Mansion is first class, although I prefer 2 level dark rides, it is still excellent. An interesting fact about Hitchcock Manor in Wildwood is that it too was a one level dark ride, so you can kind of get an idea of what it would have been like to have ridden it, by riding Knoebels mansion. Other great dark rides would include Ocean City Maryland's Haunted Mansion, Rehobeth's Haunted Mansion, Seaside Height's Stillwalk Manor, and the now unfortunately defunct Myrtle Beach Haunted Hotel.

knoebel's rules, I have nothing but fond memories of it from going their as a lad. I hope it's future is promising, It's been years since I was there, but I also remember their being a very large and fun pool and waterpark area that was part of knoebels, or kind of.

And of course the Haunted House was awesome. I remember riding it many times in a row, studying every detail of their decoration, it intrigued me even then. In fact every time i've been to any amusement park and they haven't got a dark ride/haunt ride I am very dissappointed. It's like come on... Having an amusement park without a darkride is like having a B-rated horror movie without any nudity.

Dorney Park is one example. They used to have dark rides, but one was lost in a fire Sept 28, 1983 (Bucket O' Blood) and the others were removed after Cedar Fair took over the park. The Journey ride was torn down fall 92 and the Iceberg/Meteorite was torn down after 1993. The Bill Tracy Gold Mine walkthrough under the arcade house was closed 1985 and the old house was torn down fall 2005. The Mine was sealed off all those years. At least Dorney has haunts for Halloweekends, but still no dark rides in the summer. In fact, with the (temporary?) loss of Bushkill Park's Haunted Pretzel due to snowstorm and floods, the Lehigh Valley, PA area no longer has any permanent dark rides. What a shame considering the LV is one of the fastest growing areas in the entire state. I lived in Allentown at my mom's house 2 mi west of Dorney Park my entire life since Jan 14, 1974 when I was born. I love all the other east coast dark rides as well, although I never got to ride Myrtle's Haunted Hotel and now it's gone forever.
