www.dafe.org/attractions/darkrides/phantasmagoria/phantasmagoria.htm www.laffinthedark.com/articles/phantasmagoria/phantasmagoria.htm The park, Bell's lost their lease with the fairgrounds after 50 years. They might be forced to move and if they do, this dark ride could be torn down just like Dr. Blood's. Note on the websites the stunts that look like the stunts from Dr. Blood's. The skull, the mineshaft, the flying ghoul. There's also a Whacky Shack at Joyland, Wichita, Kansas. Joyland shut down but reopened last year under new management. However, the park's future is still uncertain which means the Whacky Shack's future is uncertain. Waldameer, Erie, PA also has a Whacky Shack plus a Pirate's Cove and Trimper's in Ocean City, MD has a Haunted House ride and Pirate's Cove all built by Bill Tracy.

I think Ocean City Haunted House is very safe. It seems that park is a several generation park, going back over 100 years. They seem committed to the business. OC has a nice collection of dark rides. The Pirate's Cove is very rare, there's only 1 other one like it at Waldameer, Erie, PA they also have a double decker Whacky Shack that's probably better than Hunt's Pier's model was. I don't like all these parks with classic dark rides closing, though because I never got to ride many of those dark rides yet because the parks are too far from me. You should try to get up to Niagara Falls sometime, plokoon there's several haunted attractions on the Canada side look at the pic in my avatar but you will need a passport or pass card by 2008 or 2009 in order to cross the border.

I don't believe it. Skull Kingdom is closed. And worse, it's being demolished for CONDOS! Those evil dark ride-killing condos have struck again! From website: "Skull Kingdom, Orlando Haunted Castle, has entertained millions of guests but the owners say the International Drive real estate is worth too much to continue as a haunted attraction. No formal plans have been made for the property, but sources say demolition is slated for March." "After over ten years popular Skull Kingdom haunted house located on International Drive has closed to make way for timeshare condos. Skull Kingdom was the first haunted houses to open in the nation, where a building was built from scratch specifically to be a haunted attraction. The attraction cost over 2 million dollars to create, which included many special effects on two stories. Skull Kingdom helped spell the doom for the more popular 'Terror on Church Street', which was located in the downtown area. Skull Kingdom is now the third high profile haunted house to close, the first being the before mentioned Terror on Church Street, secondly was the ill fated Haunted Mansion created by Tom Goddard, which closed several years back and later had a major auction.
When Terror on Church Street closed it held an auction for all the contents, so now Skull Kingdom will also hold its own auction for all contents inside. The Skull Kingdom auction will be held sometime within the next 60 days. We will keep you updated on auction dates." Ugh. This is just another dark ride closing story where the props are saved but the building razed. Lets see, that's 3 dark rides lost so far this year. Dr. Blood's, Phantasmagoria at Bell's, Tulsa, OK, and now Skull Kingdom. There is one dark ride success story, though where last year a lakeside park closed in Ohio, Erieview, it was home to the 1963 Bill Tracy dark ride renamed Fright Zone (originally Haunted House) after it's relocation from West View Park, Pittsburgh, in 1979, and operated at West View as a one-level dark ride until last Sept. then was auctioned off. But, an enthusiast purchased the ride and is relocating it to Conneaut Lake Park, PA for this year where it will be reassembled in another building. Now, NW PA will have THREE Bill Tracy classics to enjoy, plus a rare Pretzel gravity darkride, the two at Waldameer, Whacky Shack and Pirate's Cove, and the two at Conneaut, Devil's Den (Pretzel gravity darkride) and Fright Zone (might be renamed).

Phantasmagoria looked like a classic dark ride. Too bad I never got the chance to ride it. Found some really great stuff on it by the creator of a great web site called secret fun spot. I will be posting other links of interest as the day goes on. I have noticed there are few to hardly any links to interesting sites that i know members of this board will find interesting. More to come. secretfunspot.blogspot.com/2007/02/phantasmagoria-remembered.htmlwww.secretfunspot.com/

Wow, its turning into something that Dante's and Darkriver turned into. A great darkride wasted by a stupid story.

Hey, at least it's coming back and not "lost forever" like so many other dark rides, I can name over four dark rides that were lost forever in the past few years. and they're keeping the Tracy stunts. Would you rather have it all trashed, never to be seen again? Think about the kids of 2010 who will have a chance to ride in the dark thanks to these few dedicated parks. Bob Bell did the right thing with this ride. Another old dark ride is coming back this year, the Fright Zone from Ohio, it was built by Bill Tracy at West View, Pittsburgh in 1963 as Haunted House, West View closed 1977, ride was relocated in 1979 to Erieview, OH and renamed Fright Zone, Erieview decided to close the amusment park forever last Sept., ride was auctioned off in Oct, an enthusiast got the ride and is relocating it to Conneaut Lake Park, PA for this year where it will be reassembled in a different existing building. The park is in debt, however. They need help. It's like a Whacky Shack-type ride with most of the classic stunts (but no crooked clock). I believe OC's Haunted House is the last one with a crooked clock, unless any of the other survivors have one.
