Dorney Park is tearing down the old Solomon Dorney Mansion Hotel and Restaurant which housed an arcade in the 80's and the past several years and had eating stands surrounding it. It was home to the Gold Mine walk-through in the basement which was built by Bill Tracy (who built Hunt's Pier's Whacky Shack, Ocean City MD's Haunted House, Pirate's Cove, etc.) in the 60's and closed in the mid-80's. Up until now, this classic dark walk-through remained intact, although closed and sealed off for the past 20 years. Now I fear that it will be torn out and thrown away with the rest of the building. Cedar Fair sux. Oh well, they have the newer haunted houses that are open in October, it's not like the Gold Mine was ever going to reopen or anything like that. But, it was the last piece of Dorney's dark ride history. The last of the other old dark rides vanished 12 years ago. Like Journey to the Center of the Earth and the Iceberg. The Bucket O' Blood dark ride up the hill from the Iceberg burned in Sept. 1983.

What a shame. I was hoping that someday I could bribe an employee to let me in the gold mine through the cheesesteak kitchen because that was one of my childhood memories. I went through that gold mine more times than you can count. Also the Bucket O' Blood before it burned in Sept. 1983. All my childhood memories are being torn down or burned down especially in Dorney Park and Wildwood.

Yep, I remember the day Dorney Park had the big fire that took out the PTC Grande Carrousel and the Bucket O' Blood, it was Wednesday, September 28, 1983. I have the newspaper from the day after the fire. It shows the Bucket O' Blood on fire. I was only 9 at the time. Dorney and Wildwood had so many great dark rides back then but they all vanished. Wildwood is the fire capital of the area. They had so many fires there too many to count. How many dark ride fires did they have? Hitchcock Manor 1981? Castle Frankenstein 1984? Castle Dracula 2002? Dorney had it's share of fires, too about 4 or 5 of them. Now Dorney is smart and builds it's new buildings out of brick, concrete and metal, except the new haunted house which is built with wood. But, there's plenty of fire extinguishers inside.

Im sick of those bastards at cedar fair getting rid of all the trees and classic rides. The whip will be next! You just wait and see. Then it will be the zephyr! They will cry and say it will cost to much to fix so it had to go! Then everyone will kiss there asses and believe anything they say. Screw off you dorney bastards Why dont you tear down that beautiful fish pond with the fountain you stinkin morons.

I am crying. The building is down. I saw it on the news on TV. They are ruthless. A wrecker or whatever you call it took a bite out of the side of the building. It appears that the whole thing is destined for the landfill by the way they are destroying it. The higher-ups at DP are a bunch of stuck up snobs. The gold mine wakthrough dark ride was one of my childhood memories with its caves, bloody handprint on wall of cave, suspension bridge, bridge through rotating tunnel, jail room with strobe light. It supposedly remained intact all this time but closed and sealed off under the arcade since it closed in the mid-80's, but now it seems it is finally going so I will never have a chance to go in it again after 20 years even if I bribed an employee to let me in through the cheesesteak kitchen.

All they care about anymore is pleasing the thrillseekers (all of their recent additions the past several years were thrill rides) and charging an arm and a leg for parking, food, and admission. At least for the dark ride fans they have HalloWeekends.
