Today is the fifth anniversary of the castle fire. Jan. 16th. We just lost Dr. Blood's last week. So far WW has lost 2 dark rides in the new millennium. There has been no progress at the former castle spot in five years. What are the Nickels doing?

Insurance is probably outrageous and no one probably wants to take that much of a chance anymore. You have to remember; we live in a crazy, money hungry world. When I used to work at a restaurant, the manager's used to just go overboard and out of their way to please the customers, no matter what the problem was. I've seen customers make complete fools out of management and knew they could get away with it. No business wants to be held liable for ANYTHING.

I wonder how many people trespassed on the burn't remains and scored burn't props? Many of those props were made out of metal such as some of the skeletons and so they could have been saved.
I wouldn't have done this w/o getting explicit permission from Mr. Nickles. I wouldn't want any tresspassing trouble myself.

5 years already? dont seem that long.i don't think anything will ever be built there. insurance reasons and the lack of real interest. i think once dollyworld open up mystery mine there may be a turn around on dark rides. its weird how Halloween is so popular with haunted houses and things, and no one thinks about this to open one up somewhere down the shore, and how popular it may be. but it may be just everyones afraid of another six flags deal where it gets burned down by some idiot. who knows, maybe we will see another haunted house/ darkride in our future, but we will never have any as good as brigantine, castle dracula,or the longbranch haunted mansion. in the meantime lets hope they can save golden nugget before somone burns it, or it goes to pieces

High insurance and law suits are probably the main reasons. No one wants to take the risk anymore and in the world today, you can't blame them.

I had the fortune...or misfortune to visit the castle during it's last summer. It was a shell of it's former self I'm sad to say. Hellraiser in the Guillotine Room..yuck. And don't get me started on the boat ride. I managed to snap a pic of Grandpa before some fat chick employee decided to climb in the already flooded boat and ruin my last ride through the dungeon. I'll never forgive that fat turd. Doesn't matter anyway, the dungeon was pitch black and practically nothing worked anymore. Here is the shot of Grandpa, my friend tried to video tape, but only managed to get a second or two of the Axe in the Head skeleton, and it was still working.

WOW what a BEAOTCH! I'm not going to forgive her either as she kept you from taking more pictures. She needs a spanking... I'd like to give it to her. *lol* Yeah they were all real "friendly" when it came to ppl taking pictures or using flashlights to see the workings of the ride. You should check out my diatribe halfway down in my post here: darkinthepark.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=Dracula&action=display&thread=1166172129It seems the castle staff couldn't differentiate the difference between a juvinile delinquent and a hardcore Draculas Castle fan. Either that or some of the staff themselves were just juvinile delinquents. In any case my experiences over the years could have been better while "visiting" the castle. Edit: Also if you have more pictures of the insides we would just love to see them! Thanks for the grandpa image, he was my favorite prop!

nothing is going to get done. as far as the nickels are concerned its a dead project. sure it was said it was going to cost nickels $400,000.00 a year with the castle gone. imagine trying to duplicate that in this economy? the insurance on something the size of castle Dracula would be outstanding! never mind the all the Ada stuff they have to add in. id love to see a new haunt for the shore(anywhere even!) but we have to face the facts, nothing is going to be done anytime soon. the familiar sounds of what happened at great adventure are still too fresh in peoples minds. i heard someone here say why is Halloween so popular with haunted houses , and why cant someone do it full time? bottom line...COST and the fact a Halloween house only needs to last a few weeks at most. there are all kinds of costs for a full time haunt. i hate to say it but right now Niagara falls has the jump on us. (sorry guys first time i agree with RWK) the new coaster/ dark-ride being built at dollyworld is hopeful. maybe someone will build a new dark-ride when someone realizes it could be a windfall to whomever gets the balls to try. until then, we watch the castle site stay vacant, and wait to see if anything gets done with golden nugget before its completely in disrepair. its a strange world we live in, we like to be scared, but the real scary part is hoping someone builds one!

Well then, gljh, let's all get our passports (which the US govt will require to re-enter the US from Canada) and go to the falls. There is 1 haunted house on the NY side and it looks weak. Canada has all the great ones on the hill. Also, there's other tourist towns in the US with live actor haunts, like Lake George, NY (Dr. Morbid's Haunted House and House of Frankenstein-which Niagara also has) and Virginia Beach (3-D Fun House, Nightmare Mansion and Haunted Fun House) Myrtle Beach (Ripley's Haunted and Nightmare Haunted House) Gatlinburg, TN (Ripley's Haunted and Mysterious Mansion) So, there are plenty of summer/year-round haunts out there, you just have to look. It's sort of a mixed bag for dark rides, while we lost several classics over the years, new ones are being built like the new Haunted Mansion at Kennywood replacing the Gold Mine ride. Who knows if it will be better than Knoebels, but you shoot at things and it's trackless.

Wow, that would be REALLY cool if you could somehow post it here! Sorry, I don't have the slightest idea on exactly how to do it, but hopefully someone out there does and you can get it up!! Would LOVE to see that masterpiece!!!
