I would have taken a part of the foam Castle wall home with me if I knew it was going to be destroyed anyway. It still sucks that it's gone. Dante's sucked compared to the castle because it was over in two minutes, you whizzed through it in that monster cart. Even if Dante's is better now, it'll still suck because it's not the same as a live actor walk through haunted house or a boat ride. I like the old style tracked dark rides, but some of them seem so fake but the Castle actually looked like a castle all the way around, it wasn't this metal "box" with a false front or a tent with a false front. The same goes for other attractions like Morey's Haunted House that they had. It actually looked like a haunted house, no false front. The Golden Nugget is an example of an attraction with no false front. Trailer dark rides look cheap, tacky compared to custom built ones. I think Niagara Falls ON Canada, Ocean City, MD, and Virginia Beach have better dark rides/haunted attractions now. Morey's dark rides still suck. C'mon, Pirates with a family theme?

I agree. I actually had small pieces of the castle wall too. Taken from the hallway that went from Grandpa to the mad scientist room. I had them inside a small turbolite but I can't seem to find it now. I'll post an image of it when I find it if anyone cares. Actually, quite frankly. The live actors is something that I didn't like about Castle Dracula. They kind of ruined the vibe for me, esp in the boat ride. The boat ride was calm and soothing..... Untill someone would say "boo" by the phantom of the opera prop or "muhahahaha" behind the wall in the grave yard or even "eeeeeek" in that little window when you come back inside form the court yard. I found that very annoying. As a result, if it was a cute girl, I would try my best to ask her out. That would piss her off and for the rest of the night she wouldn't say "boo" to me as I did marathon sessions with my wrist band. So that worked out nicely but a date would have been more appealing. I don't know what it was but those girls with the white face paint and the black dresses were a tremendous turn on for me. As a result I've always wanted to go to a goth club but there aren't any around here. Now I feel I've grown out of going to any sort of club. Morey's Haunted House. YEah that and Frankenstiens Castle, and Dr Bloods House of Horrors. All three were running and in working order when I was first in Wildwood. Unfortunatly I didn't get to ride any of them, I only have pictures of the outside. Why didn't I go on them? Because I was a frikken baby! I tried to talk my folks into riding them with me but it was a lost cause. I make sure I rip on them every now and again about it though.

Loved your post, '92. The thing of it is; at a particular time, you don't know what's going to happen, or I know alot would have wanted to have something from the castle. So many times I wish I would have taken more pictures of certain things; but who's to know what's going to happen in the future?

Makes for a more personal adventure.

I was Contessa Anisha Dracula...was also manager. Ohh well, I couldn't find you here (unless if you had a nickname): mywebpages.comcast.net/castlealan/Was this guy a manager at some point? Heres an amusing story for you. Probably worthy of a seperat thread but what the hell.... I seem to remember, he (the man pictured above) was the guy that went in the ride with me to get my mag lite back from one of the teenager staff. You see, I'm not your average patron/mark. I'm a big fan of amusement rides (thanks to WW) to the point that I want to see how things work. One of the "actors" decided to play god and stole my flashlight as I was pointing it on one of the props. Well I reported this the the office, I was told that stealing items from patrons was not allowed (duh) and so he went in to get my flash light back and reprimanded the actor. I was told that its generaly not a good idea to wave a flashlight around inside a darkride with actors as it apparently is a signal that something in the ride went wrong. I agreed with him and as a result I mastered the art of using my fingers as a shutter on the flashlight so that only a thin beam would shine through if any light at all. I can say that at least I got to see how a home made lighting effect worked (the bulb with a rotating baby food jar which was painted translucent red but with white areas exposed). I tried to make this effect light at home out of a rotating police beacon effect but it didn't come out so well. I've since bought a professionaly made Martin brand effect light that does essentially the same thing. I noticed after discovering this effect in the dungeon that this was used throughout the entire walkthrough portion. These were used to animate the red hanging pendant lights as well. I remember getting grief often times for examining props and lights which was a shame. Castle Dracula was the first time I ever saw a moon flower effect light with a fog machine so that amazed me to no end. I really do think that had I been a 30 year old and not whatever I was at the time (15?) I wouldn't have gotten such treatment. I'm sure that if I had been older I could have arranged a "lights on" tour before it was opened to the public on a certain day (I've since done this with newer dark rides much to my delight). As I'm now a few months away from 30 I can say with great certainty that being young isn't all its cracked up to be. At least the makers of Castle Dracula and the other fine dead rides in WW can be pleased to know that they shaped my interests which will stay with me forever such as my interest in Theatrical lighting: Short movie of one of my moving light chases.and model amusement pier which started out as tinker toys, later legos, and finally museum quality models:

Great model collection '92. That would look fantastic if you could display them on a built pier or boardwalk. How do you keep the dust off of them, though?

He was much later...and this is me You look lovely. Unfortunatly I wasn't even one year old yet when that picture was taken (1977). I often wish that I was born 10 years earlier so that I could have enjoyed WW and other things more. Ohh and I seem to remember an animatronic zombie being in that coffin. It worked the first year I was there (81 or 82) but the following years it no longer sat up.
