If only Pat had rebuilt the pier in 1987 with a new haunted mansion, this new pier is going to be something for yuppie-types, haunted mansions and yuppies, snobs don't mix. I have a feeling NJ will never see a multi-story mansion or castle ever again, other than what pathetic dark rides they already have. Nobody would want it, a new mansion or castle. It would draw the wrong type of people to their town, and it would be a big liability risk in today's sue-happy society, and it couldn't be too gory like the old ones because of potentially offending conservative religious bible people. Times have changed since the 70's, to the point where certain things wouldn't be acceptable anymore. Also, the state is still strict concerning building new haunted houses since all the fires, especially the 1984 Six Flags fire. OK, the only current permanent walk throughs in NJ are Fun House, Point Pleasant Beach, haunted Manor, Seaside Heights, Curse of the Mummy, Wildwood. Of all of them only the Haunted Manor has that old-school haunt atmosphere. It's one level, probably to make the fire marshal happy.

I have freinds who are locals and firemen who were there that day who will never believe in a million years that the pier was not burned down on purpose to make way for the crap that is going on right now. The township had refered to it as "That carnival type atmosphere"and shortly before it burned they built that fancy Hilton only a few yards away and were making plans for expensive condos along the nearby strip.

I think they should have did something like the old pier. With all the stores and restaurants that are being built along with the condo's--there still isnt much to do for children. The pier should have been rebuilt.

not all kids are too busy to go outside burger khan. my son plays his video games too---but i'm not a lazy mother who sits home and gets fat and does nothing with her child okay---- we do things in the summer---there is more to life than video games--in case you havent noticed. video games are an easy way out for alot of parents who dont want to bothered with their kids!!!!!!

Anyone know about the fire and the settlement with the city of Long Branch? I heard it was an electrical fire and the city was responsible.

The devil himself burned down the haunted houses in New Jersey because they are evil.

Can't sue the devil though. You can sue the city. Anyone know what happened? It's been 18 years; I think case is still open.
